Let’s Play Rad Racer

Let’s Play Rad Racer! This was my third let’s play on the channel rad racer(okay, I’ll stop counting after this one) and has the distinction of being the only LP I’ve ever put up without narration I’m pretty sure, save for maybe a couple of videos with copyright notices where they just killed the sound altogether. No, chalk this one up to a technical issue, but not unlike a Dickens Christmas tale (okay, very much unlike), at the very least it gives us all a glimpse of what Let’s Play With Brigands would be like without narration:

This is one of the easier NES games to pick up and play but one which is difficult to master as you get past level 3 or maybe 4. Many people at the time looked upon Rad Racer as an Outrun (Sega/Arcade) clone but those who knew better recognized it was a lot more than that. In the years since its release, it’s become one of the definitive NES titles. I mean come on, it made an appearance in The Wizard. Although I still have no idea how Lucas dominated this game with a power glove, something I received as a gift a couple years ago and can therefore attest to its unreliability. I guess that’s why Lucas (presumably) got all the ladies.

A fun Rad Racer fact is that not only was this game made by Square, Nobuo Uematsu composed the memorable music for the game. Those who are familiar with Square and Final Fantasy in its hey day know that Nobuo Uematsu would subsequently go on to gain fame by composing the music for most of the Final Fantasy series which happen to be some of my favorite video game music compositions in existence. So it’s cool to later realize that he was also the man behind these pumping 8 bit racing tracks.
