Let’s Play Labyrinth

Let’s Play Labyrinth! I wish I could have played this game under better circumstances, but then again I probably wouldn’t have been playing it if not for a posthumous tribute to the man and legend of David Bowie.

Let’s Play Labyrinth:

I believe this was initially an Apple… or maybe a Commodore 64 game. Maybe both actually, but this is an old Lucas Arts Games game I believe. Aside from the beginning of the game which breaks fourth walls left and right and sees your character chatting up with an attractive guy or girl in the movie theater for Labyrinth before getting sucked in yourself, this game follows the plot of the film relatively closely.

Most of the locales from the film are in this game, and the labyrinth of the film is really a massive and annoying place to roam. If you know what you’re doing from the start, you can probably beat the game pretty handily. I really didn’t, so it took me a bit longer and got pretty frustrating at times as you, or more precisely I, struggled to find your way around the labyrinth to find what you were looking for.

A major credit to the game is the open endedness of it. Not only geographically and spatially, but in terms of different ways to beat the game. Different doors will lead to different areas, and there are different ways to clearing different parts.

Altogether it was a pretty awesome accomplishment that they got this game to look and play like this in the mid 80’s, and all around it’s an impressive piece of work.

RIP David.
