Let’s Play King’s Quest 3 Redux! Speaking of how much I hate typies, I wasn’t very eager to play the original King’s Quest 3. When I learned that a more advanced graphical point and click remake had been made by a third party, I made the controversial decision to play it in place of the original typie.
Let’s Play King’s Quest 3 Redux:
If you’re not familiar with this game, you’re probably wondering why we’re playing as a peasant boy in Gwydion. In a pretty sweet plot development in the series, Alexander was kidnapped as a child and made an indentured servant to an evil wizard. It’s our job to teach him about his rightful birthright and get him home when they need him most.
I couldn’t help but notice that virtually nobody made a comment after I uploaded this game. I don’t know if that’s because they felt betrayed that I played the redux or just hated the typie version as much as I did and wanted nothing to do with this game. Or maybe they’re not King’s Quest fans.
Normally typies aren’t that bad, but in this game it’s maddening particularly while creating the spells. If you type one thing even slightly incorrectly, Alexander ends up with giant ears or just drops dead and you have to reload. It’s so, so, so damn annoying. Maybe people put up with it back in the day, but by today’s standards it’s inexcusable, at least to me.
So anyway, I played the surprisingly solid redux version for that reason. Plus you aren’t treated to that amazing ballad in the tavern in the original game… sing it, Alex.
