Let’s Play Jaws!

Let’s Play Jaws! The game which made you think twice about going in the water, yes it’s Jaws for the NES from LJN. let's play jawsHow did LJN get the rights to all of these damn movie based games, by the way?

Let’s Play Jaws:

Jaws had somehow completely eluded me as a child. I think if I’m honest I just wasn’t into Jaws the film as a kid, so I had no interest in the movie. I was a bit of an indie hipster elitist as a kid before that was even a thing somehow, or I was just terrified of sharks.

So anyway this was my first time playing it, and it’s actually very similar to Friday the 13th in a lot of ways. The gameplay is pretty repetitive, the same can pretty much be said for the music (minus that ending piece, which was delightful), and in terms of plot, while mirroring the plot of Jaws, it still manages to be a rehash of Friday the 13th, in that there’s a dangerous “something” on the loose and it’s up to you to kill it.

I should take this moment to acknowledge that Friday the 13th may actually be the rehash of Jaws, as the game came out a couple years after Jaws. But anyway.

Given everything I said though about repetitive gameplay, it’s still pretty fun, especially in a pick up and play way. The NES had a lot of games which could be beaten from start to finish in the time it takes to order and receive a delivery pizza, but to me that’s definitely not a bad thing.

Sometimes you just want a quick non-committal game which you can knock out in the free half hour you have, and it’s great for someone like me who likes games like that to fill live streams with in anticipation of the main event.

Anyway, after I got over the initial learning curve of the game, I was ready to go and think I’d fare much better in a subsequent let’s play, so yeah, that’ll be a thing on some live streaming day.
