Let’s Play F-Zero! F-Zero was a solid racing game for the SNES. I liked it a lot at the time. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good game. But I sometimes wonder if the Nintendo made games were just drilled into our heads that we were supposed to like them, and maybe that whole mystique added to our memories of them. What the hell am I saying? I probably just doesn’t age as well as other games, maybe that’s it. Ah never mind, I like F-Zero.
Let’s Play F-Zero:
The plot: See, in the future, everything is kind of fucked. And racing is super popular. And you race on different planets. And different racers represent their planets sort of, maybe? Anyway one thing is sure, you drive at irresponsible speeds, topping off at like 500 mph or something like that if you hit a speed strip or use an S.
Everyone loved Captain Falcon as he had the most balanced car. The Blue Falcon: it could take a licking and keep on kicking. Much better than the Yellow Mustard Weasel… no I don’t remember the names of any of the other cars. Maybe the Green Goose.
Good music in this game, and you sort of got the real feeling of racing at incredible speeds. Or maybe that’s just what the box said and wanted you to believe. Yeah it was an okay racing game. The cornering was kind of shitty, but they could get away with that by claiming irresponsible speeds.
I remember getting this with the SNES on Christmas of 1991ish along with Super Mario World of course and Final Fight. Final Fight and Mario World took most of my attention, but this game was a nice runner up and alternative after having exhausted the other two all day (which wasn’t really possible, but a racing game is a nice change of pace). F-Zero 64 was a good time, but that’s a story for another time.
