Let’s Play Donkey Kong

Let’s Play Donkey Kong! This game came packaged with the Donkey Kong Classic two pack which again my dad bought for me when I graduated from preschool. It’s an arcade classic and a good time as you play as Mario in one of his first roles, saving an unnamed princess.

Let’s Play Donkey Kong:

I can’t play this game now without thinking of the docu/mocumetary, The King of Kong: a Fistful of Quarters. It tells the real story of Billy Mitchell, the man who long owned the high score on Donkey Kong until upstart family man and all around likeable guy Steve Wiebe beat his score. It covers the whole world that is the elite crop of high score owners on classic video games, focusing specifically on Donkey Kong, and how seemingly ludicrously and dare I say pathetically serious these grown men take their video games.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s definitely worth a view for a number of laughs and classic quotes. “There’s a Donkey Kong kill screen coming up for anyone interested”. I have to admit though, that knowing that the record has since been broken a dozen or more times kind of takes the piss out of the whole movie and the drama it creates, but it’s still a good time.
