Let’s Play Conqueror AD 1086! This is another hidden gem I found in the bargain bin at Best Buy or Babbages back in the day, a few years after it came out. I was a kid on a budget, looking for a sweet game to play on my computer and with a hole burning in my pocket.
This game is so old now and the graphics were crude, but damn if it wasn’t original and fun to play (not unlike Magic Carpet). I never get tired of taking over all of England with an army of roughly 5 or 6 men by exploiting a game flaw which allows you to distract the enemy with one army while you sneak in with another.
Then there’s the tournaments where you could woo the ladies and take the other knights for all they’re worth by exploiting the joust time and time again with my finger trick.
Then there’s scouring the countryside looking in every single fief’s blacksmith for the King Slayer sword (not sure how the king felt about that sword being commissioned, but damn if it didn’t cut through dudes like butter.
Then there’s planting crops and developing your fief if you want. I used to do that, obviously I didn’t in this let’s play Conqueror AD 1086 video, but that’s just because I had a thirst for blood which needed to be quenched like I usually do when I play this game.
There’s nothing more satisfying than sneaking into a rival castle with one man, cutting through their entire defense and claiming all of their properties, then meeting and chatting with that knight in the tavern of a tournament city later as if nothing happened. It’s the little things.
