Let’s Play Warcraft

Let’s Play Warcraft! Let’s Play WarcraftHey it’s the original Warcraft! I remember playing this game with my sort of buddy/acquaintance Mark back in grade school. He gave me an illegal burned (gasp) copy of this game to install on my computer. I got such a rush from installing that “hot” copy of the game and subsequently playing online with him.

Let’s Play Warcraft:

But yeah, I played Warcraft over the World Wide Web using dial up internet, either 28 or 56k speed. You know, or maybe don’t know, the whole craccccck, beep beep beep, dial up. Fuck, that was a thing, wasn’t it?

You can’t imagine how amazing it felt playing a video game with your friend when they weren’t in the same room as you, when you were 10 no less. It felt like witchcraft, actual magic which was facilitating the whole thing.

As much as I loved Warcraft at the time whether I was playing with Mark or on my own, today it’s kind of difficult for me to play it. As I probably mentioned in my original Warcraft 2 post, this game is borderline unplayable today compared to two or three.

Basically things like not being able to easily control multiple characters at once or just right click to tell them where to go, things which Blizzard added in the sequel, made the game kind of annoying at least when you go back.

The thing was, at the time we didn’t know what we didn’t have and it was great. When Blizzard added those obvious improvements in the sequel, it was kind of that mindset of you didn’t know how you had lived without that in the past so when I went back and played this on the channel whether it was off camera or live as part of, something, yeah it was pretty damn annoying and just made me want to play the sequel or the sequel of the sequel.

But time was, I loved this game, and thank you Mark for making it happen with a pirated version when I was 10.
