Let’s Play SimCopter!
SimCopter to me is a bit of a hidden gem. One of those games not too many people are familiar with but fun as hell.
Let’s Play SimCopter:
Don’t get me wrong – this game is ugly as sin, and handles almost just as badly. Yet like Pirates! or Magic Carpet, it’s one of those games from around the same time period which I just couldn’t get enough, repetitive as the gameplay may have been.
The premise, if that’s not too grandiose a term, is that you’re a helicopter pilot in a city, a SIM City if you will. You fly around doing all of the things helicopter pilots do (putting out fires, chasing robbers, medivacking (sp) folks), and you do all of the things most helicopter pilots DON’T do (grabbing someone from the roof of a runaway train or getting on your megaphone to tell someone in the traffic jam beneath you that they’re in a traffic jam)
And remember all those cities you made in Sim City 2000? Yeah, you can import those and fly around those cities, saving the Sims of those locales in whatever precarious situations they may find themselves in.
I mean it sounds… no wait. I was about to disparage the concept, but that actually sounds pretty awesome. So much so that I would LOVE to see someone do a modern version of this concept with graphics that don’t look like the designer’s toddler vomited on his motherboard and that was the net result, not to mention with gameplay that doesn’t feel like your computer is on day 7 of a week long stag party.
I usually don’t use this website as a forum to solicit game developers to do what I tell them, but if you’re reading this, please make this game right; it’s such a good idea.
Anyway, not surprisingly this game is difficult as sin to get running on a modern computer. It’s the only game I’ve played on this channel so far where I made a separate video JUST TO EXPLAIN HOW ANYONE ELSE CAN GET IT TO WORK. I like it that much.
Anyway, good times.
