Let’s Play The Secret of Monkey Island! This one was for Beth. This is the delightful ridiculous island adventure of Mr. Guybrush Threepwood from none other than Tim Schafer.
Let’s Play The Secret of Monkey Island:
Before there was Full Throttle or The Dig, but AFTER there was Maniac Mansion, we had the Secret of Monkey Island. I actually didn’t play a whole lot of these as a kid. The collection was included in a bigger Lucas Arts Games collection which I bought which included games like the Dig, Full Throttle, The Afterlife (fun game I should revisit), and I think Dark Forces.
I was a fan of all of those games and was missing a couple so I grabbed that collection at a good price but it was at a time where I was falling out of video game interest at the time at least for something new, so I kind of neglected Monkey Island. My brother was instrumental in getting me into a lot of the games I got into as a kid, and I don’t think that he had played much of this either.
When I say ridiculous, I really mean nonsensical as a lot of this stuff is straight up crazy. To get an idea of how crazy I thought it was, listen to the pitch of my voice jump several incredulous octaves in that final video. You gotta give Tim Schafer credit, though, as he had a concept in his head and brought it to life in this game, hilarious and nonsensical as it was. I’m looking forward to playing the sequels now, in time, as well.
