Let’s Play A Nightmare on Elm Street! Hey, Jason got his own game from LJN, so why not Freddie? Or is it Freddy? Anyway, as far as I know, the difference is that Freddie/Freddy got Rare to develop his game, so, awesome for Freddie.
Let’s Play A Nightmare on Elm Street:
This game is a bit more linear than most of its LJN counterparts, again possibly something which can be attributed to the Rare development. Instead of a constant Freddie indicator, you had to find which of the six or seven locations you had access to, then enter and fight your way through a level with some kind of iteration of Freddie at the end.
I’m definitely going to attribute this to Rare, but the music in this game was very solid. I’m pretty sure that the guy who scored the Donkey Kong Country soundtrack (track for track one of my favorite soundtracks of all time) had nothing to do with this game, but it definitely had some standout moments.
The game isn’t especially difficult, and most of the difficulty is recycled pits and enemies in precarious positions, not unlike 90% of the games at the time. I’m joking of course… it was closer to 95%. Plus a nice feature was that you could inexplicably switch characters at the boss… or maybe before and I just didn’t try it… I don’t know I wasn’t really paying attention if I’m honest. But it was fun playing as a ninja for no reason.
The rub is that, even though the game is more linear and objectively probably better than games like Friday the 13th and Jaws, to me it’s not as likely to get a revisit from me.
Everyone familiar with my channel knows that I ironically kind of love Friday the 13th for some reason.
Most of it comes from its ability to pick it up and play it and be able to maybe beat it within an hour or less, depending on where the items and weapons pop up, which kind of changes the game play each time and provides extra incentive to play again and again, whereas this game is as I said more linear, save for the order of the houses changing, which doesn’t really change much of anything.
Okay game, yeah it’s all right. Should I be doing some sort of rating at the end of these? A little late to start now I suppose.
