Let’s Play Mickey Mousecapade

Let’s Play Mickey Mousecapade! Crikey, another Disney gem from Capcom. And what’s more Disney than Mickey Mouse himself?

lets play mickey mousecapadeI’m glad someone decided that Mickey should have his own game even though there’s not necessarily an obvious plot associated with Mickey outside of piloting a steamboat or something.

I can just imagine the story writers over at Capcom brainstorming on what to make the game about, with one of them suggesting how about if Minnie gets kidnapped, is that a thing that happens in NES games? Yeah it’s not entirely original, but the rest of this game more than makes up for it. Each level is decidedly different from the last and has a curveball you have to work with.

In the first level, you need to make it a point to get a star or two. Not sure how they decided on a star as Mickey’s sole weapon (wish upon a star maybe?) but it’s pretty effective especially when you find the second star which not only gives you a second shot but Minnie gets a shot, as well. This is especially effective against certain enemies and bosses even because of the fact that Minnie can’t take any damage, only Mickey. Therefore, it’s a fun trick to get Minnie trapped next to a boss while Mickey drops to safety, then you can just use her to blast away without taking any damage. A cheap yet effective way to win a surprisingly difficult game.

The final level is tricky as you have to avoid the weird mutant bird thing which will steal Minnie and make you have to go way out of your way to retrieve her. There’s a trick though for the Evil Queen (last boss) where you can keep attacking hidden spaces on the screen until a Tinkerbell type faery pops out and grants you temporary invincibility just close enough to make it into the Queen’s room if you’re quick, and just touching her once will get the job done. And then you’re hanging out with Alice for some reason, because why not?

Great gameplay, good music (if not a bit forgettable by Capcom’s standards), and an all around good time makes this another gem on the Capcom NES collection.
