Let’s Play Jackie Chan’s Action Kung Fu! Man I remember having to get a booster shot as a kid (I absolutely dispised needles) and freaking out about it but taking solace in the fact that as soon as I was done, we were going to go over to my local video game rental store and grab Jackie Chan’s Action Kung Fu! I had a vague idea of who Jackie Chan was as a kid, but hadn’t seen any of his movies at the time.
As a side note, I later became obsessed with Jackie Chan and bonded over his flicks with my buddy Richard in middle school, around the time my older brother worked at a Blockbuster (it was a kind of store where you could rent something called video tapes in the 90’s for all you kids) in the late 90’s. He hooked me up with free video rentals and pretty much every Jackie Chan (and James Bond) film they had in the store.
I talk about graphics a lot in games of this generation but I don’t know that any of them really resounded with me all that much with a few exceptions, and Jackie Chan’s Action Kung Fu was certainly one of them. Something about the artistic style of everything being slightly oversized, like Jackie’s too-big-for-his-body head and the fluid motion of the game play and as long as we’re just gushing about this game how about some of the music pieces?
Yeah suffice to say I loved the shit out of this game well more than most other games of and at the time. Still dig Jackie Chan flicks even though I catch a lot of flack for it around certain people and can’t find anyone to watch them with me. Wait, what were we talking about, and why the hell doesn’t the guy on the box look anything like Jackie Chan!?
