Let’s Play Maniac Mansion! Maniac Mansion is responsible for something like a quarter of my entire channel’s traffic and probably subscribers with it. For whatever reason that video blew up and I still every few days get someone messaging me telling me that they subscribed because of this let’s play.
This game was legitimately scary when I was a kid. Something about the animations of the family and the thought of getting caught and thrown in jail. When you add the fact that your friends can be killed, then float around as ghosts while their boombox plays their tune; I don’t know there was something creepy about all of that. Gimme a break, though, as I was five at the time.
It’s still one of my favorites from the system; I still break it out every now and then even around friends who are much more focused on today’s generation of consoles. Even those who didn’t grow up on Nintendo or maybe had a Genesis were into it because there was nothing else like it either for the NES or any video game system in its day. It’s still unique in many ways.
I only ever knew how to beat it with Bernard as a kid. We’d bring Michael along because we knew how to develop Ed’s photos (by the way, did the plot with Ed ever develop any further after you gave him the photos?). In more recent years I’ve since learned how to do it with every kid, using their unique talents (except for Jeff) to foil the Evil Meteor. In this let’s play I decided to go with the two kids I’ve used less than anyone over the years in Wendy and Jeff. Anyway, good times good times.
