Let’s Play Contra! On a system which had a lot of great 2 player games, Contra is the quintessential NES co-op game.
It’s really too bad that it’s rare to find a good in person couch co-op game anymore, because it’s my favorite “genre” if you will. Outside of doing let’s plays which admittedly I frequently do live now, I can’t really stand playing a game by myself.
But I digress…
Yeah Contra ruined as many friendships as it saved, I’m convinced of that. You can’t tell me the developers weren’t laughing their heads off in the room as soon as someone proposed the idea of being able to scroll your teammate off the screen (to death).
That aside, this is a fantastic shoot em’ up action title for the NES and one which until recently I always had to use the Konami code to beat I’m ashamed to say.
Then I finally tried it with the goal being of having a clean a run as possible without cheats and I went and got a perfect no death run. It seemed so daunting as a kid, the idea of even trying it without the cheat. There’s a lesson somewhere in there kids…
