Let’s Play Ducktales

Let’s Play Ducktales! Ah back to the warm comforting glow of Capcom made Disney based games. You know the drill by now; great music, great graphics, great gameplay, and the gimmick in this game was the use of your cane as a sometimes whacking sometimes pogo stick to interact with your environment and get around the areas.

lets play ducktalesIn this game, Uncle Scrooge’s entire fortune, even his lucky dime presumably, has been nabbed by some baddies from the show, and it’s up to Scrooge and to a much, MUCH lesser extent his nephews and niece to get it back. The real point of the game is to get the five treasures of the world, each worth a cool million. But when you beat the game, you can get a slightly different ending or at least scene depending on how much money you’ve collected in the game.

The more money you get by finding diamonds and rubies along with the hidden treasures here and there, the larger the pile of cash Scrooge will go berserk over in the closing scene, so there’s incentive to play each level as much as possible to acquire a larger sum and hopefully hit that $10 million mark.

Because what’s an NES Disney marriage if it doesn’t drive home the importance of acquiring as much wealth as possible?

I know I mentioned the music earlier, but one of my top 10 NES all time music list picks originates from this game in the moon level. It starts out quietly with some bleeps and blips to set the scene like Capcom game music pieces always do before jumping in a rocking catchy yet nostalgic bubble of awesomeness.

Everyone has fond memories of this game and it’s arguably the best Capcom Disney marriage for the NES if you ask around. I played the remake on PS3 in the last year thinking it would be a quick playthrough, exactly like this game, but they added a lot more to the game and ultimately it’s quite a bit harder without being especially memorable. I’ll stick with the original.
