Let’s Play Bionic Commando! Okay maybe I should just call it now and say Capcom far and away made the best games for NES back in the day. Outside of Nintendo themselves, it’s probably true. They’re probably my favorite overall, or you’d think so from this early channel game selection.
Bionic Commando had one of the greatest gimmicks to ever grace a game (say that three times fast): the bionic arm. Yes true to the title of the game, you were very much a bionic commando who could use his bionic arm to latch on to surfaces and pull or swing himself where he needed to go. It’s pretty important in a game which has no jump feature to allow you that.
Of course the music is fantastic, but I feel like I should stop gushing about it at this point because as I’m typing this I remember it’s what I and we all came to expect of Capcom. Still, Area 6 was so good.
Not an especially challenging game outside of a handful of ridiculous swinging moments with tiny targets and the fact that you can just keep doing those truck mini missions over and over to stock up on an infinite supply of continues means you have no excuses, but hell this game was fun.
And yeah, call him Master D all you want, we just killed Hitler.
