Let’s Play Baseball Simulator 1000

Let’s Play Baseball Simulator 1000! Likely in a three way tie with Dodgeball and Ice Hockey for being my favorite sports themed NES game, Baseball Simulator 1000 never gets old for me. Also another one of my favorite multiplayer games for the NES, especially when I’m playing with someone who gets it like my friend Matt from New York City; we make it a point to play this anytime we meet up and have the means.

It would be fine on its own without it, sure; the gameplay is rock solid and you can stymie your friend with outside and into the ground pitches all day long. But cripes special moves make this game special. I’m convinced that if I make it to 90 that I’d still deliver the phrase “bobble ball” with the exact same intonation.

The only thing better than connecting a bobble ball and enjoying an in the park grounder-homer as it slowly slips passed every defender on your opponents team would be successfully engineering a rocket jump outfield home run save. If you could pull one of those off you’d always get laid the next day in school (one of my favorite random jokes).

Plus the news anchor stats girl at the end totally looks like a girl I went to high school with and had a crush on.
