Let’s Play Mario Party 2! It was time for Peter and me to renew our ongoing rivalry not only with one another but with Mario and Luigi, as well. Mario is as cunning and Luigi as borderline brain dead as ever.
Let’s Play Mario Party 2:
This was actually my first time playing this game which is kind of surprising I guess considering how much I loved the first one. I think if anything, that’s a testament to the replayability of Mario Party 1 because you could play a dozen games and no two would be the same. You could even play that many games and still never play all of the minigames, though admittedly that would be pretty disappointing.
As a tangent here, I feel the need to recognize and acknowledge my own use of “replayability”. It’s a word I use a lot, though I’ve heard some people be militantly against its use, citing that it’s not a word. Words become words through repetition and use, and there’s not a better word to describe what I’m trying to describe in a single word, so I’m going to keep using it. /rant
Anyway, I don’t remember most of the minigames or how this game was decidedly different from the first. Probably because it wasn’t decidedly different, and a lot of the new games were just tweaks on the original’s games. Nintendo did have the sense to import a lot of the better games of the first one, which I think was wise.
They added a lot of extra features to board play, so much so that it makes the first one look pretty damn simple by comparison. Ultimately, I liked the changes they made to make the game a bit more complex because it added a lot more drama to the games. That said, the original had plenty of wildcards between features like bonus stars and chance time circles.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that this was a good sequel, in a world where there aren’t a lot of good sequels, so kudos Nintendo for doing what you do: making generally good games.
And after two we’re split; we’ll see how Mario Party 3 will unfold.
