Let’s Play Leisure Suit Larry 2

Let’s Play Leisure Suit Larry 2! Let’s Play Leisure Suit Larry 2Like the majority of the Leisure Suit Larry games, this one picks up shortly after the first one, as poor Larry once again gets ousted from what he thought was a good thing. This leads to him resolving to give up on pursuing momentary flings and focusing on finding the right one, and with that he goes looking for love (in several wrong places).

Let’s Play Leisure Suit Larry 2:

One of the things I loved about the idea of making games like this was the creator’s ability to basically put the protagonist in any situation he or she could imagine. If you want to make your protagonist, in this case Larry Laffer, inexplicably win both a dating show then moments later a million to one shot lottery, then it can happen, and in this case, it did.

Yes ridiculous plot device after ridiculous situation ensue which send Larry on what has to be one of the most ridiculous journeys all over in video game history, but it totally worked for this game and this series.

The one grief I have with the game is that, rather realistically, if you forget an important item before a certain part of the game, you can’t go back, so you have to make sure you have plenty of saved games on file, lest play it all over from the beginning. Must have been frustrating in the early days before the internet, having to rely on tip lines and PC game magazines.

Anyway, have I mentioned that I dig the whole 1970’s world that Al Lowe seems to be obsessed with. I love a lot of the references that are made throughout this series of games, particularly in this game, and specifically what they represent. Like I think “10” is a great movie… at least Al Lowe has an excuse having grown up in the 1970’s, heh. Good stuff though, solid follow up to the original in all of its hilarious and gratuitous glory.
