Let’s Play Castlevania:

This is the game which began the Transylvanian themed franchise which everybody loves. Truth be told I was a much bigger fan of Simon’s Quest and that whole format of collecting items and solving puzzles to advance the game.

I really liked Castlevania 3 a lot, too, for its music and mechanics of being able to switch between characters, but you wouldn’t have them without the difficult original.

Speaking of difficulty, this game was tricky. I didn’t play a lot of it as a kid as again I favored the sequels, but a couple of these bosses, particularly Dracula himself, were mind numbingly difficult for me playing them the first time on the channel.

Part of my ongoing issue with games I didn’t grow up playing is that I don’t know the patterns of the bosses, and when I’m recording let’s plays I’m always more preoccupied with the commentary than learning a boss’s movements.

And I fully acknowledge that that sounds like a cop out, but in this case it’s actually true.

Anyway, I’m glad I finally played this game after putting it off for so long because I was a bit intimidated by it having not had a lot of experience with it. Solid game and a good platformer.
